Insurance

Buying ski insurance is SIMPLE and relatively INEXPENSIVE.

Below are helpful points to consider when taking out insurance.
(NB: This list is not exhaustive and relates specifically to the skiing element of your holiday.)

What Do You Require?
  • Mountain rescue and Air Ambulance
  • Medical Bills - check limit
  • Personal Liability - check limit

Optional Cover
  • For loss/theft or damage to hired ski equipment
  • For loss of ski hire arising from piste closure
  • Loss of ski pass
  • Avalanche delay
  • Cover for Off-Piste skiing
  • Possible extras
  • Legal expenses
  • Loss/theft or damage to non-hired ski equipment

It is always worth checking to see whether you already have free holiday insurance cover, e.g. provided via your credit card or with household insurance. If so you should ensure skiing holidays are not excluded, they are often referred to within the small print as "hazardous pursuits".

Lift Pass Insurance
Lift passes are usually sold with insurance as an option. This is an unnecessary purchase if sufficient insurance cover is already in place, but at an approximate cost of only 2.50 Euros a day, this may, nevertheless be an attractive option.

Carre Niege is one of the leading specialists in mountain insurance, this insurance is generally offered when buying a ski pass.

Carre Niege cover includes:
  • Cost of rescue and search
  • First transport costs - between place of accident and the nearest medical centre
  • Refund of lift pass and lessons (following an accident)
  • Reimbursement of medical, pharmaceutical and hospital costs, arising from an accident
  • Ski breakage arising from an accident.
